FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – They’ll have to wait until March 7 to play in front of a home crowd at Gillette Stadium, but the New England Revolution will get a taste of that rabid support in Saturday’s season opener against the Montreal Impact at Olympic Stadium (3 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Boston).
Approximately 200 supporters will be making the trek north of the border to cheer on the Revs in enemy territory, and that’ll provide a welcomed boost for the Revolution as they begin the season on the road for the 12th straight year, and the 24th time in the club’s 25-year history.
Having opened in Dallas (2019), Colorado (2017), Houston (2016, 2014), Seattle (2015), Chicago (2013), San Jose (2012, 2009), and Los Angeles (2011, 2010) in recent years, it’s a rare opportunity – along with a visit to Philadelphia to begin the 2018 campaign – for a significant group of traveling support to see the season opener.
“I can’t wait to hear them singing,” said goalkeeper Matt Turner. “Typically I feel like we start off the season far away – last year (we were) in Dallas – so it’ll be nice that it’s close enough for the fans who’ve been waiting a long offseason to sing for us and get back out there.
“We’re looking forward to it and (looking forward) to putting on a show for them.”
Following this weekend’s opener in Montreal the Revs will play four of their next five games in Foxborough, with another regional road match against the New York Red Bulls scheduled for April 18.
Revolution Season Members have the opportunity to travel to either that April 18 match at Red Bull Arena, or the June 14 meeting with New York City FC at Yankee Stadium, with round-trip bus transportation and a ticket to the match provided (BECOME A SEASON MEMBER).
