Recap | Revs pick up first home win of the season, 3-1 over Montreal Impact

Bou and Fagundez goal celebration (Original, 2020)

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (4-3-6, 18 pts.) defeated the Montreal Impact, 3-1, at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday evening behind goals from Henry Kessler, Gustavo Bou, and Diego Fagundez. Kessler opened his MLS account in first-half stoppage time, before Bou and Fagundez tripled the host’s lead on the other side of the break. Montreal’s Lassi Lappalainen pulled one back for the Impact in the 86th minute, snapping the Revolution’s bid for a second-consecutive clean sheet.

Kessler, selected by New England with the sixth-overall pick in January’s SuperDraft, scored his first career goal by collecting a rebound off a corner kick and slotting a right-footed shot inside the near post. The center back, who leads all MLS rookies in minutes played this season, has appeared in all 13 matches this season.

Bou doubled the Revolution’s lead with the eventual-game winning goal – his fourth tally of the season – in the 49th minute, when he beat Impact goalkeeper Clement Diop to the far post with a right-footed shot from the center of the box. New England’s third and final goal came from Fagundez, who entered the match as a substitute two minutes prior. His goal is the 53rd of his MLS and Revolution career, and his first of the season. Forward Tajon Buchanan was credited with his first assist of the season on Fagundez’s finish.

In net, goalkeeper Matt Turner made three saves, which moves him past Adin Brown and Jeff Causey and into sole possession of third-place among New England’s all-time saves leaders.

New England returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 27, when the club visits D.C. United at Audi Field. The match will kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET, and will air on NBC Sports Boston, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and in Portuguese on WBIX 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA.
