The Revolution Academy is an elite player development program that provides high-potential youth players with unprecedented access to the New England Revolution's esteemed Pro Player Pathway, which encompasses the club's Major League Soccer team, Revolution II (MLS NEXT Pro), and the elite youth teams, which compete in MLS NEXT. The Revolution Acadmey, which features three residency homes in the vicinity of the club's state-of-the-art Revolution Training Center, is the region's only fully funded program for elite youth players, eliminating costly barriers to entry.
In 2022 and 2023, the Revolution Academy became the first program to win back-to-back MLS NEXT Cup championships, doing so at the Under-19 level. With an accomplished group of coaches and a professional-style competitive environment, the Revolution Academy has graduated more than a dozen Homegrown players to the MLS ranks, and many more to the professional level with Revolution II.
Fully Funded
The Revolution Academy youth teams are fully funded by the New England Revolution. All players’ expenses related to competition are paid for by the Revs, including training, facilities, adidas uniforms and training gear, and game/tournament-related travel expenses.
Style of Play
Our player pool is encouraged, trained and expected to exhibit a possession-oriented, dynamic style of attacking soccer. We believe this gives our players the best possible opportunity to continue their careers at the highest levels, both collegiately and professionally.
Within this style of play, each player is given the autonomy to make decisions – with and without the ball – based on their training and knowledge of situations as they arise in a game.
Competition Calendar
The Revolution Academy's youth teams compete in MLS NEXT in the Under-18, Under-16, Under-15, Under-14, and Under-13 age divisions. The 2024-25 MLS NEXT season kicked off in September 2024 and will run through May 2025. The program also competes in marquee tournaments such as Generation adidas Cup (April), MLS NEXT Fest, MLS NEXT Flex, and the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs, of which the club are two-time champions. The Revolution Academy holds training sessions year round at the club's facility in Foxborough.
Training Schedule
The Revolution youth teams train three-to-four times per week, and all sessions take place at the Revolution Training Center or Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Training sessions last up to two hours and take place in the late afternoons or early evenings, varying by age level.
Training and Playing Facilities
The Revolution youth teams train at the Revolution Training Center and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The teams have a dedicated, full-sized artificial turf field on the Revolution campus, in addition to using the WIN Waste Innovations Field House and Gillette Stadium.
For the most part, all Revolution youth team home games are played at Gillette Stadium. However, because of scheduling conflicts, some home matches may be played at off-site facilities.
Transportation to Training and Home Matches
Many Revolution youth players car pool with other players who live nearby. The Revolution staff helps connect players who may live close by so they can coordinate transportation to and from training sessions and local home matches.
Away Game Travel
The Revolution youth teams compete in MLS NEXT and play a regionalized regular-season schedule focused primarily in New England, New York, and Montreal, Canada.
In general, players’ families are responsible for transportation to games played in New England. These include home games and matches at FC Bolts Celtic (Cambridge, Mass.), Seacoast United (Epping, N.H.), Oakwood SC (Portland, Conn.) and BSC CT Academy (Bridgeport, Conn.).
The teams travel by bus to most games played in New York and Montreal, and fly commercially to certain showcases and postseason events.
Residency Program
The Revolution Academy has three residency homes within walking distance of the Revolution Training Center, each staffed by two guardians, typically the club's full-time professionally licensed coaches. These homes allow elite players from throughout New England and the country to benefit from the club's Pro Player Pathway without barriers such as cost or transportation.
