This Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Union marks the Revolution’s second-annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Match – the culmination of a month-long “Soccer Kicks Cancer” initiative lead by MLS WORKS, which aims to find a better cure for every child with cancer.

Here is everything you need to know before you head to Gillette Stadium this weekend:


CHARITABLE PARTNER – BINKEEZ FOR COMFORT

Binkeez for Comfort is local non-profit that makes and delivers blankets with love to bring comfort to individuals experiencing health issues, particularly children in hospitals and hospice.


The Revolution has made an initial donation to produce special Revolution blankets, which are being distributed to young patients in area hospitals throughout the month.

Silicone wristbands available for donation

Childhood Cancer Awareness Match - September 26 -

A limited number of gold Soccer Kicks Cancer/#NERevs silicone wristbands will be available for a $3 donation at the top of sections throughout the stadium. All sales will benefit Binkeez for Comfort.
Postgame auction – Sept 26 through Oct. 4

An online auction hosted at auctions.revolutionsoccer.netwill benefit Binkeez for Comfort. Items will include a selection of player-worn and autographed jersey featuring the CCA ribbon patches and other team-signed Soccer Kicks Cancer gear.


GOLD GAMEDAY ELEMENTS
Gold-themed tifo, feat. artwork by Boston Children’s Hospital patients

The supporters designed a special gold-themed tifo display, to be unveiled just before kick-off on Saturday. On Thursday, Sept. 10, a group of Revs players visited Boston Children’s Hospital, where they helped patients paint a section of the banner.


20,000 gold ribbon stickers giveaway

The first 20,000 people in the building on Saturday will receive a gold CCA ribbon sticker. Arrive early and show your support!


In-stadium entertainment elements

  • Gold and Soccer Kicks Cancer video/ribbon board elements, including lighthouse
  • Revolution Player PSA
  • Halftime video/photo montage of charitable programs and month of CCA activities

Both the Revolution and the Union will be wearing gold accents during the CCA match, including:


  • CCA shirts to be worn during procession
  • Gold CCA sweatbands
  • CCA ribbon patches worn on jerseys

CCA ACTIVITIES
Hero of the Match

Saturday’s honoree is Lisa Scherber, the Director of Patient & Family Programs for Dana-Farber and Boston Children’s Cancer & Blood Disorder Center.


Rally tunnel experience

Twenty spots in the rally tunnel have been secured for childhood cancer patients/survivors and an accompanying sibling or friend. We know that a cancer diagnosis affects not only the child, but his or her family and friends as well.


Procession banner experience

A Soccer Kicks Cancer banner has been signed by Revolution players and will be displayed in the nrg Plaza pregame. It will then be walked out ahead of the procession by a family affected by childhood cancer.

On-field procession experience

A group of childhood cancer patients, survivors and their families, as well as charitable organization staff and volunteers, will line up behind the players during the procession and national anthem.


CCA procession shirts off their backs experience

A group of childhood cancer patients and survivors will receive the Revolution starting XI’s CCA walkout shirts on the sideline between the procession and kick-off.
