FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Henry Kessler and the United States Under-23 Men’s National Team begin their quest to qualify for the Tokyo Summer Games on Thursday evening, as they’ll open group play of the Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Championship with a match against Costa Rica. Kickoff from Guadalajara, Mexico is set for 5:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on FS1 (English) and TUDN (Spanish).
Kessler, who had a standout rookie season with the New England Revolution after being selected sixth overall in the 2020 SuperDraft, is aiming to make his first international appearance at any age level. The 22-year-old participated in his first U.S. camp this past January, playing with the U23s as part of a joint camp with the senior squad and Revolution teammate Matt Turner.
The U.S. and Costa Rica are joined in Group A by Mexico and the Dominican Republic, with the top two teams following group play advancing to the competition’s semifinals. The winners of those semifinals will advance to the regional final and claim one of Concacaf’s two spots in the Summer Olympics.
Revolution winger Tajon Buchanan and Canada will kick off their qualifying campaign against El Salvador on Friday evening at 6 p.m. ET, with coverage also available on FS1 (English) and TUDN (Spanish). Canada’s group also features Honduras and Haiti, whose roster includes Revolution II defender and 2021 SuperDraft selection François Dulysse.
