Revolution and Special Olympics Massachusetts Team Up for Summer Slate of Events

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution and Special Olympics Massachusetts, in partnership with MLS WORKS, are joining together this summer for a series of events uniting professional soccer players and athletes with intellectual disabilities. The Revolution are proud to renew their ongoing relationship with Special Olympics Massachusetts by offering new and unique opportunities to enjoy real sports experiences and promote healthy lifestyles for Massachusetts athletes with intellectual disabilities. These Special Olympians will have several opportunities in the coming months to engage with Revolution players, coaches, and staff as they use the sport of soccer to help instill confidence, improve health, and inspire a sense of competition. 


Media are invited to attend this summer’s events, which kickoff on Friday, July 1 at 9:00 a.m. ET, when the Special Olympians will officially join the Revolution as they sign their contracts with the club. After meeting with Head Coach Jay Heaps, the athletes will sign their contracts, receive Revolution uniforms, and attend a first-team training session with their new teammates.


The events are headlined by the second annual charity bowling event, Bowl for a Goal presented by Arbella Insurance (Aug. 16), where Revs celebrities and Special Olympians will share the lanes at Splitsville in Patriot Place. In addition, the Revolution and Special Olympics will also unite for a player-led soccer clinic at Special Olympics Massachusetts headquarters in Taunton, Mass. (July 25), and two Unified matches prior to Revolution games on July 6 at Gillette Stadium and August 28 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.

Training Visit and Contract Signing – Friday, July 1 (Foxborough, Mass.)
The Revolution and Special Olympics will kick off the summer slate at Gillette Stadium on Friday, July 1 at 9:00 a.m. ET, when the Special Olympians will meet with Head Coach Jay Heaps to sign their Revolution contracts, receive their uniforms, and attend a training session to meet their new Revolution teammates.


Bowl for a Goal presented by Arbella Insurance – Tuesday, August 16 (Foxborough, Mass.)
The Revolution and Special Olympics Massachusetts are teaming up for the second annual charity bowling event, Bowl for a Goal presented by Arbella Insurance, on Tuesday, August 16 at Splitsville in Patriot Place. Revolution celebrities, players, coaches, and staff will share the lanes with Special Olympians and special guests in an effort to raise money for Special Olympics Massachusetts.


Unified Matches – Wednesday, July 6 (Foxborough, Mass.) and Sunday, August 28 (Harrison, N.J.)
On Wednesday, July 6 at 4:30 p.m., the Revolution’s Special Olympics Unified team will take the field at Gillette Stadium before the team’s MLS match against New York City FC for a game with a Unified team from Special Olympics New York. The two teams, which feature athletes with and without intellectual disabilities, will meet at Splitsville in Patriot Place for an afternoon of lunch and bowling prior to their game. On Sunday, August 28, the Revolution’s Unified team will join the team at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. for a meeting with a Unified team from Special Olympics New Jersey.


Special Olympics Massachusetts Visit – Monday, July 25 (Taunton, Mass.)
On Monday, July 25, a group of Revolution players will visit the Special Olympics Massachusetts facility Taunton, Mass. for a player-led soccer clinic and autograph session.
