FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution helped Boston Scores raise more than $340,000, a new record for the tournament, at the 14th annual corporate charity soccer tournament held at Gillette Stadium on June 16. Hosted by Boston Scores in partnership with the Revolution, the Scores Cup remains the largest corporate charity soccer tournament in the United States.
More than 600 players from Boston area businesses and over 50 corporate and individual sponsors joined together at Gillette Stadium for the co-ed soccer tournament to raise funds for after-school programming. In addition to serving as the premiere city-wide fundraising soccer tournament, Scores Cup shares the Revolution's goal of cultivating passion for the sport of soccer throughout the region. All proceeds benefit urban youth in the greater Boston area through Boston Scores’ innovative after-school programming that blends soccer, poetry, and social entrepreneurship programs.
“Collaborating with Boston Scores year-after-year to share the great game of soccer with today’s youth has been deeply rewarding to the Revolution,” said New England Revolution President and Boston Scores Board Member Brian Bilello. “Our club strives to support local partners and it’s a source of great pride to help put on an incredible tournament like Scores Cup that combines our passion for the game with our commitment to serving our community.:
The event is one major aspect of the extensive collaboration between the Revolution and Boston Scores, which includes the "Revs Scores, Boston Scores" initiative that donates $100, or one week of programming for one student, for every Revs goal scored at home. Through the first nine home games of 2018, the Revolution have raised $1,500, or the equivalent of 15 weeks of student programming.
“Our long-standing partnership with the Revs allows us to secure the support we need to serve students from every neighborhood in Boston," said Boston Scores Executive Director John Maconga. "Not only do we collaborate on fundraising efforts like the Scores Cup, but the front office personnel, including President Brian Bilello, volunteer their time to serve on our Board of Directors and players volunteer their time to participate in clinics with the youth in our programs. Together, we are making the sport of soccer accessible to hundreds of urban youth who otherwise might not have the opportunity to play.”
This year, State Street claims the Premier Division title and Wellington Management claims the First Division win. After a year off, Margulies came back and claimed the Wooden Spoon division championship.
