Tajon Buchanan and Canada can secure a spot in the final round of Concacaf World Cup qualifying on Tuesday night when the Canadians will host Haiti in the decisive second leg of their second-round series (9 p.m. ET, Paramount+).
Buchanan, who registered a pair of assists in his senior international debut against Aruba on June 5, played the final 12 minutes of Canada's 1-0 win over Haiti in the first leg at Sylvio Cator Stadium in Port-au-Prince on Saturday night. Tuesday's return leg will be played at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgview, Ill., with Canada needing just a draw to secure their place in the octagonal stage of Concacaf qualifying.
Canada have not reached the final round of World Cup qualifying since 1997.
The United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Jamaica automatically qualified for the eight-team final round of qualifying based on their FIFA rankings, while Canada-Haiti, El Salvador-Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Panama-Curaçao are battling it out for the final three spots.
Following his stint with Canada, Buchanan will rejoin the New England Revolution ahead of Saturday night's visit to New York City FC, as the first-place Revs will return to action following their three-week break from league play (7:30 p.m. ET, TV38, myRITV, CoziTV).
