FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Three New England Revolution players will spend three weeks training in Portugal with Sporting Clube de Portugal, the Revs’ Lisbon-based strategic partner. Zachary Herivaux, Sean Okoli and Donnie Smith will train with the current Portuguese Primeira Liga leaders from Nov. 29 until Dec. 18 before returning to the United States.
In addition to the three players, Revolution general manager Michael Burns and head coach Jay Heaps will also travel to Portugal to spend time with Sporting.
“Sporting are known for their ability to develop young talent,” Burns said, “and we feel these three players will really benefit from this opportunity to train at a high level during the offseason.”
In October 2014, the Revolution and Sporting entered into a multi-year strategic partnership that is focused on promoting collaboration on training and development methods for the clubs’ first team and youth squads. The agreement also allows for shared scouting resources and the opportunity for players and coaches to spend time training with the other club.
